Mary Brailey set up her freelance editorial service in 2001. Since then her clients have ranged from small businesses and individuals to public sector organisations and community groups.

She has previously had almost thirty years’ experience working with local authorities, voluntary organisations, housing associations, and universities.

She has been responsible for written communications at every level, from the single-handed production of small newsletters to the management of organisational communications strategies.

She has had her own writing and research published on marital breakdown, on supported housing, and on discrimination and equal opportunities in relation to housing.

For five years she was the Head of Planning and Commissioning for the Social Work Service in Glasgow, where she had strategic management responsibility for their research, planning, information, performance, standards and commissioning functions.

During the nineties she was Director of Integrate, a highly respected voluntary organisation which promoted supported housing solutions and provided information, research, and training services, conducted campaigns, and established inter-agency networks, newsletters, and events.

Prior to this she was a full time researcher at Glasgow University, and then worked for Falkirk’s Housing Department as the Principal Officer responsible for Research and Development.

For various periods during this professional career she has been involved as a voluntary committee member or volunteer for Women’s Aid, Shelter, Glasgow and Scottish Councils for Single Homeless, Thenew Housing Association, Scottish Federation of Housing Associations, Richmond Fellowship and Glasgow Association for Mental Health.

She has also been the professional supervisor of student placements and dissertations for housing courses at Stirling and Heriot Watt Universities.

A university education in the Classics provided a grounding in language skills as well as familiarity with classical mythology and culture, archaeology, and the history of Western philosophy.

"I have always enjoyed those parts of my work to do with the written word. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to produce a well researched and well presented publication which people will take something from - whether it’s information to help them in their job, or something to stimulate ideas or action"
